Event dedicated to 30 Year Anniversary of Georgia – Germany Diplomatic Relations and the visit of Former German Foreign Minister Hans – Dietrich Genscher to Tbilisi

On 13 April, 2022 we celebrated the 30 year Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Georgia and Germany.

On 13 April Diplomatic Institute and Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany in Georgia organized a joint event dedicated to 30 year Anniversary of Georgia-Germany Diplomatic Relations and the visit of Former German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher to Tbilisi.

As a part of the event, panel discussion was held on “30 years after the Visit of Hans- Dietrich Genscher: Germany, Georgia and Europe as a Whole.”
The panelists were Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Irakli Menagarishvili and a former Chief of Staff to Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Ambassador Thomas Matussek.

The panel discussion was moderated by the Director of the Information Centre on NATO and EU in Georgia, Tamar Tsuleiskiri.

The attendees were welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Teimuraz Janjalia and the Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia, Hubert Knirsch.

“During those difficult years, our country was taking the first independent steps on the international arena, in order to become part of the European family. Germany’s support and the personal involvement of the German Foreign Minister was pivotal, especially considering the role which Germany played at different stages of Georgia’s history over the past 200 years, supporting the political, socio-economic or cultural development of our country. We are grateful that Germany is a strong supporter of our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as of our foreign Policy priorities.” – Teimuraz Janjalia.

“Georgia’s independence, the Unification of Germany and the mutual recognition were interconnected as part of one great historical process. During those years, the era of empires, conquests and spheres of influence was over and the new European security and cooperation was established.” – Hubert Knirsch.

During the reception, an exhibition was held showcasing Hans-Dietrich Genscher’s visit to Georgia on April 12-13, 1992.
